“Perfectionism is not the key to success. In fact, research shows that perfectionism is correlated with depression, anxiety, addiction, and life paralysis or missed opportunities. The fear of failing of making mistakes, not meeting people’s expectations, and being criticized keeps us outside of the arena where healthy competition and striving unfolds.” —Brene Brown, written in her new book Daring Greatly (via jonathanmoore)

“Sometimes we make the mistake of ignoring the big leaks, the ones that threaten our journey. More often, though, we’re so busy fixing tiny leaks that we get distracted from the real goal, which is to go somewhere.” —

- Seth Godin

So true, the details can drag us down. At the end of the day we need to be driven by the big goal, the great passion, the mountaintop and not by the perfection of our plans or systems.

“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.” —Antoine de Saint-Exupery, via “Weather the Storms of Life” (via jonathanmoore)

“Showing up and taking notes isn’t your job. Your job is to surprise and delight and to change the agenda. Your job is to escalate, reset expectations and make us delighted that you are part of the team.” —

Seth Godin

Showing up is easy. Resetting expectations requires us to break out of habits and rythems and push past previous levels of proactivity, that’s hard… but so worth it in the long run.

“Our character, basically, is a composite of our habits. “Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiney,”.” —Maxim found in “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”.
